Héctor Cavallaro

Musicologist, composer and interdisciplinary artist

Doctor in Musicology from the Université Paris 8, Italian-Venezuelan composer and interdisciplinary artist based in Paris. His research embraces mainly aesthetics and the philosophy of music. His writings on 20th-century music appear in collective works and academic journals such as Enciclopedia della Musica: 1900-2025 (Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani), Les possibles de l’écriture: forces, formes, sens (Éd. L’Harmattan), Suono bene comune: riflessioni, esperienze e progetti dalla pandemia (Rome, Squilibri), Silence = Violence? (L’Harmattan), Cuadernos de Etnomusicología (Madrid), Manières d’être du musical (L’Harmattan), among others. Together with Ruggero Fornari, his early-experimental-contemporary music duo Fornari-Cavallaro is set to release the album Passages (Diacronie Media, 2024). His interdisciplinary projects merge sound art with experimental theater and contemporary dance, film and visual arts, literature, and performance. He collaborates with artists such as Compagnie Interthéâtre, El Conde de Torrefiel, photojournalist Fabiola Ferrero (World Press Photo), and filmmaker Alessandra Lancellotti, for whom he composed the music for the film Il Re Fanciullo (Italy-Portugal, 2023). Currently teaches at the Université de Lille.
